“Intense” was a mean word, once used to put this artist down. Growing up as a femme-presenting person in spaces where girls were expected to be meek, subservient, and soft-spoken, Jack Lillian has always been anything but. Now, they are reclaiming all the bad labels stuck on them and artfully repurposing their elements into their psych-fueled deserty grunge rock. And this music is, if anything, intense.
With roots in riot grrrl/post-grunge (Novicain Road) and post-rock/nu-metal (Zippermouth), they’ve spent close to a decade playing at, planning, and attending DIY shows in the SF Bay Area music scene, exploring how music is great regardless of the genre. While they tend to lean towards the darker elements of any genre, they love to juxtaposition lush chord-driven tunes with heavy, fuzzed-out, riffs, and glue it all together with searing melodies and seismic vocals. This is the recipe for their self-proclaimed “emotional stoner rock”.
